Everspace 2 launches in early access

The Everspace 2 spaceship loot shooter takes off today for its planned mission through early access territory. For the sequel to their roguelike space flight game, Rockfish Games turns Everspace 2 into an open-world RPG. The full game is expected sometime in 2022, but you can jump into the cockpit right now if you want to see how it goes.

The original Everspace has also received early access, so it’s a familiar flight plan for developers. Now that they’re aiming for a bigger game with more complexity, Rockfish says they’re looking forward to receiving fan feedback again as development continues on the sequel.

“The initial version is good for at least 25 hours of play, while introducing pilots to the basic game mechanics of Everspace 2: space combat, exploration, mining, puzzle solving, travel, trading, itemization, crafting, ship customization, player and companion perks as well as five different player ship subclasses, ”they say.

Throughout its Early Access, which Rockfish estimated to be 12-18 months, Everspace 2 expects to add new content in quarterly releases. These updates are slated to bring more just about everything it seems from new star systems and new enemies, ship subclasses, enemies, jobs, and factions.

While it’s a different style game, Brendan Caldwell (RPS in Pieces) says in RPS’s Everspace review that it was a “better than average dog fighting simulation.” It was quite a spectator too. The sequel seems to continue in this tradition if nothing else.

You can find it on Steam Early Access and GOG Games In Development for £ 32 / $ 40 / € 38.
