South Carolina football quarterback Luc Doty made his season debut on Saturday night against Georgia after Zeb Noland fell due to an injury. Doty finished 13 of 26 for 153 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception, on a pass that bounced off the hands of running back Kevin Harris. Doty ran six times for 15 total yards with a long run of seven.
Here’s everything Doty had to say following Saturday night’s 40-13 loss to Georgia at Sanford Stadium.

What was your reaction when Zeb Noland fell ?
“I saw him come off the pitch and he was holding her hand. I was unsure of the nature of the injury and the matter. I knew I was ready for this. We had been talking all week about how my number was called, just to be ready. It’s a next man mentality. I pray for Zeb, we all pray for Zeb. It was my job to go out there and perform to the best of my ability. We left a few games on the field, I left a few games on the field, but I was ready when my number was called, and that’s what it is.
How did you feel when you came back to the action and how did you think you played?
“I have a lot of things to work on. Getting that first little game action against them was amazing. Hats off, they have excellent defense and they are going to have a good season. It’s only a game ; we’re going to put this one behind us, move on and keep a positive attitude about everything and just move on. We have a hell of a team; Helluva defense, helluva offense. Special teams. All around. We all believe in each other, so we will keep moving forward. “
How do you feel physically after the game and what did they do to make things difficult for you offensively?
“Physically, I feel good. First game action I’ve had in a little while, so not too bumped, thankfully. The foot is a bit sore, but that was to be expected. Georgia have excellent defense. They are quick and physical up front. They managed to catch a few creases here and there to disrupt our timing. Hats off to them; they have a great defense and a great team. I believe in our guys, and I’m right behind them, and I know they’re backing me up no matter what.
What about that team so you can stay in the games and come back?
“I think it’s just the love and belief that we have in everyone around us. Offensively, we believe in our defense and they believe in us, and we have a hell of a special teams unit. I think that’s where it came from. At halftime, Coach Beamer said we were going to keep beating him, and we got more physical as the game progressed. Offensively we kept hitting the rock and shooting the field and enjoying what they gave us. I felt like we did. Obviously we have things to work on, but we’ll come back (Sunday) and watch a movie, practice and leave it behind. I believe in the guys we have. I’m so proud of everyone and the way we fought. We fought until the last second, didn’t look at the scoreboard and kept our heads down and played.
How confident did you feel about mobility and do you think it improves next week?
“I think I’m going to continue to improve in the things I have to work on, throw the ball on the pitch, move around the pocket, escape and use my legs. Once we got into a rhythm I was able to do it and I was able to sort of settle in and feel comfortable. I will keep coming back, going back to work tomorrow and continuing to improve.
What did the offense learn from playing one of the best defenses in the country?
“We faced a defense which is one of the best in the country. We have seen a lot of things that we need to work on. I think it was good for us to see him so early in the season. We’re going to watch a movie on it and get what we need to fix it and put it away. We’re just going to continue to be us. We are all we have, and only we know the work we have put in throughout the week. We are convinced that, with the confidence of everyone in the building, including the coaches, we can do something special. “
On the offensive line …
“This is to the credit of the Georgian defense. They have a good team there. They shot us. I think it’s about coming together. We get together after every trip, sideline and rally to each other. We’re going to make little adjustments here and there, just depending on what we see, having constant communication with the offensive line and the coaches in the box, just seeing what they’re doing. We’d go out, make those adjustments, and just keep playing.
Did you feel like you had to get rid of the rust early and felt more rhythmic later?
“Getting in early, I haven’t had a lot of playing action in a little while. I really felt like as the game progressed I was able to settle down and slow things down a bit. I felt like I was rushing some things here and there, throwing the ball onto the pitch being the most important thing. I am proud of the way we competed. I’m proud of the way the wide receivers went there and played for us. I’m proud of our offensive line and the way they fought, the way they fought. We’re just going to keep improving. We’re going to come back and put this thing to bed and get ready for Kentucky.
