Everything Pokémon GO players need to know about Electivire

Part of the fun of the main series Pokemon games is the tradition of each species, which Pokémon GO recreates with descriptions in their Pokédex entries. However, examining the roles these Pokémon play in other games, and even the anime, can enrich the experience of hunting these creatures in Niantic’s mobile game. In honor of today’s Electabuzz Community Day, let’s dive into the history of its evolution, Electivire.

Dex entry number 466, Electivire is a pure electric type species from the Sinnoh region, introduced to the world of Pokemon with generation four. This Pokémon can be encountered as either male or female. Called the “Thunderbolt Pokémon,” which breaks with the “Electric Pokémon” classification of the first two stages of its evolutionary family, here’s what Electivire Dex’s entry says:

A single Electivire can provide enough electricity for all buildings in a large city for a year.

Electivire is part of a three-stage evolutionary lineage that was introduced in three separate generations. Electabuzz, the second stop on this line, came first with Generation One. Elekid, a baby Pokemon, was then introduced in the second generation as its pre-evolution. Finally, Electivire, the third and final form, was introduced years later along with the fourth generation Sinnoh region along with many other additional evolutions for species from previous generations.

For fans of the anime, Electrivire debuted in the anime in The house is the starting point! It was owned by Gary Oak, Ash’s longtime rival, and was featured on several occasions after his debut. Later, the recurring character of Paul’s Elekid evolved into an onscreen Electabuzz and then, later, an offscreen Electivire. Paul’s Electivire debuted in Throw a Paul on Barry! Other appearances include The eighth wonder of the world Sinnoh !, The young flame strikes back !, A young royal flame ignites!, and Zoroark: Master of illusions.

Other Pokédex entries offer new information about Electivire:

• Diamond / Pearl: It pushes the ends of its two tails against the enemy, then lets go with over 20,000 volts of power.
• X: As its electric charge builds up, blue sparks start to crackle between its horns.
• Sun: It pushes the tip of its tail against its enemies and then lets out a high voltage current. His enemies are burned in an instant.
• Moon: When he’s excited, he hits her chest. With every thud, thunder rumbles and electric sparks spread everywhere.
• Sword: The amount of electrical energy produced by this Pokémon is proportional to the rate of its pulse. The tension jumps as Electivire fights.
