Emraan Hashmi shared screen space with Asif Basra who committed suicide yesterday. The 53-year-old actor was found hanged in his Himachal Pradesh home. Speaking to ETimes this evening, Emraan said: “I am extremely shocked. We have lost so many actors this year. Add that to the many miseries that 2020 has brought. What a year of heartache!”

Emraan remembers Asif seemed like a very positive person who was very easy to get along with when they worked together in Ekta Kapoor’s product “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai” (2010), directed by Milan Luthria. “I stayed in touch with Asif by text message after the film, then we bumped into each other several times. I followed his work. He was a very good actor. I loved him in ‘Hichki’ and ‘Paatal Lok’. I will never forget the scene I shot with him and Randeep Hooda for “Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai” at Yari Road. It was a gunshot in prison. ”

Adds Emraan, “Asif had a very sunny disposition, he was a very relaxed guy. He had a very captivating face.

However, Emraan says he’s unaware of Asif’s life story, so he wouldn’t comment on what might have prompted Asif to take such a drastic step. “You can’t know how people react to things and what really happened. You can never know everything about a person, no matter how close you might be.” ”
