Washington DC. [USA], June 14 (ANI): The benefits of exercise vary with time, suggests recent discoveries.
A team of researchers from the University of Copenhagen has learned that the effect of exercise can differ depending on the time of day.
In research, in mice they show that morning exercise leads to an increased metabolic response in skeletal muscle, while exercise later in the day increases energy expenditure over a prolonged period.
Studies in the mouse reveal that the effect of exercise performed at the beginning of the dark / active phase of the mouse, corresponding to our morning, differs from that of the exercise performed at the beginning of the phase light / rest, corresponding to our evening.
According to the researchers, there seems to be quite significant differences between the effect of exercise performed in the morning and evening and these differences are probably controlled by the body's circadian clock.
The results were published in the Journal of Cell Metabolism.
Morning exercises initiate gene programs in muscle cells, making them more efficient and better able to metabolize sugar and fats. Evening exercises, on the other hand, increase the energy expenditure of the whole body for an extended period.
Researchers measured several effects on muscle cells, including the transcriptional response and effects on metabolites. The results show that the responses are much stronger in both areas after exercise in the morning and that this is probably controlled by a central mechanism involving the HIF1-alfa protein, which directly regulates the body's circadian clock .
Morning exercise appears to increase the ability of muscle cells to metabolize sugar and fat, and this type of effect is of interest to researchers with regard to people with severe overweight and type 2 diabetes.
