US men’s national team star Christian Pulisic was due to start Chelsea’s Premier League game on Saturday against Burnley but suffered an undisclosed injury during warm-ups.

Pulisic scored midweek in the Champions League for Chelsea, a 4-0 victory over Russian club FC Krasnodar. He had previously missed the opening round of the 2020-21 season as he recovered from a hamstring injury he suffered in the FA Cup final last year.

Pulisic’s status will be closely watched, especially ahead of the next USMNT friendly on November 12 against Wales.

Dest and Konrad start on the bench for Barcelona

Sergino Dest will start Barcelona’s La Liga game at Alaves on the bench, but will have the company of a compatriot American in the form of Konrad de la Fuente. The 19-year-old is looking to secure his first league minutes of the season as Dest started Barcelona’s last La Liga outing, a 3-1 El Clasico loss to Real Madrid.

Sargent scores in Bundesliga

USMNT forward Josh Sargent scored his first goal of the 2020-21 Bundesliga season for Werder Bremen, marking the opening of Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Sargent made it 1-0 in the 51st minute, capping a breakaway with a powerful right-footed finish. Check out the highlight below:

Sargent scored four goals and four assists in the last Bundesliga season, helping Werder Bremen narrowly avoid relegation. He scored in their DFB-Pokal game earlier this year, but has been held scoreless in five previous league games.

Henry scores for Suwon

It’s almost a year since Canada’s national team center-back Doneil Henry joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Suwon Samsung Bluewings, and he now has his first goal for the club in K League 1.

In their Saturday game against Gangwon FC, Henry provided a powerful lead in the opener in the seventh minute of a possible 2-1 victory. Check out the goal below, with Henry having already started his MLS career in 2010 with Toronto FC:

Steffen not in the city team

Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday, but USMNT goalkeeper Zack Steffen was left out of the Premier League squad after suffering a small blow, according to the Manchester Evening reporter News Simon Bajkowski.

While Steffen is still awaiting his England top-flight debut, he has supported Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson in their last five EPL appearances this season.

Steffen, however, has already made two Carabao Cup starts for Manchester City since loaning the 2019-2020 season with Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga. As for his MLS roots, he was with Columbus Crew SC before heading to Europe.

Marsch sets a record

After a 5-0 win on Saturday over WSG Swarovski Tirol, Red Bull Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch is the first coach in Austrian Bundesliga history to win 28 of his first 38 games. It also comes at a perfect time, as they will face German power and defending champions Bayern Munich midweek in the UEFA Champions League.

Before going overseas, Marsch coached two different MLS clubs in the New York Red Bulls and the Montreal Impact.

Further Bundesliga Notes

Giovanni Reyna (former NYCFC student) played the last 15 minutes of Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 win Arminia Bielefeld, while FC Dallas youngster Chris Richards benched for Bayern’s 2-1 win Munich against 1. FC Koln.

RB Leipzig faced Borussia Mönchengladbach later in the day, but Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls academy product) did not make the day’s squad as he recovered from a wound.

Dundee duo wins

Former DC United midfielder Ian Harkes started and played 77 minutes in Dundee United’s 2-1 win over Ross County on Saturday, ending a two-game draw streak. As for the old Colorado Rapids and Orlando City SC midfielder Dillon Powers, he was not on the bench.

Harkes has joined the Scottish Premiership squad for the 2019 campaign, while Powers is in his first year with the club. They are currently fifth in the standings.

Palmer-Brown goes the distance

Former Sporting Kansas City center-back Erik Palmer-Brown played all 90 minutes of Austria’s 2-1 league loss in Wien on Saturday to Hartberg. He is currently on loan from Manchester City and has started five Austrian Bundesliga games in the past month and more.
