Facebook and Instagram appear to be partially down for some users around the world. Although you can open both platforms, it appears that you can not send or receive messages on one or the other platform, and you can not publish new content either. .
WhatsApp seemed to be good for a lot of people, but users Paraguay, India, Bangladesh, Argentina and others note that they are having trouble sending messages. DownDetector indicates that people in Brazil have experienced the most serious breakdowns.
We tested several accounts at The edge, and found that Messenger could not load on the desktop at all, even though the mobile app was working. Instagram was worse: messages were not downloaded, Instagram Stories was down, and direct messages and the button to view new content did not work either. The ads section of Facebook was not working either and this resulted in an internal error when you tried to buy an ad.
About an hour after users noticed the crash, Facebook responded on Twitter:
We are aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the family of Facebook applications. We are working to solve the problem as quickly as possible.

According to DownDetector, it appears that breakdowns occur primarily in New England; Texas; Seattle, Washington; parts of Latin America, including Peru; Great Britain; India; and the Philippines. Users from Canada, Las Vegas and Turkey also noted downtime. We contacted Facebook and Instagram to find out more.
