I couldn’t find an explanation as to why this happened, but it looks like everyone accessing the app through an iOS app has to sign in again, and a lot of people who use two-factor authentication have trouble reconnecting.
Based on the social media posts, many people with two-factor authentication were eventually able to reconnect, but the SMS codes were very slow to send and some had to upload photos of their identity to access them from new.
