San Francisco: The social media giant Facebook would work on a streaming device, like Amazons Fire Stick, which would connect to a television to provide access to online content.

The new streaming hardware will be part of the company's family of Portal devices, which will include a camera, combining video conversation with television and Augmented Reality (AR), announced Friday variety.com.

The company recently approached Netflix, Disney and HBO to add their content to its hardware.

In addition, Facebook is about to launch an updated version of its video messaging "portal" later this year.

Andrew Bosworth, vice president of Facebook's AR and Virtual Reality (VR), also confirmed that the company had much more to unveil "later this fall" related to Portal.

Portal was launched in November 2018. While the smallest device was priced at $ 199 ($ 730), the largest "Portal Plus" was priced at $ 349 with a 10-inch screen and a 15-inch screen, respectively.

The device compatible with smart cameras is also powered by the voice assistant of Amazon Alexa and comes with front cameras.
