Facebook has announced a major redesign of its Messenger service that focuses on privacy and speed. And this happens also under Windows and Mac.
"2019 will be a transition year for Messenger and messaging as we build an application that embodies a privacy-focused social networking vision," said Facebook director Asha Sharma. "The idea being that if we were to start building a social network today, we would start with messaging."
Code-named Project LightSpeed, the brand new Facebook Messenger is designed to launch in less than 2 seconds and occupy less than 30 MB of storage space on any device. That's 70 MB less than the smallest version of Messenger today, says Facebook.
The new Messenger will also feature a new user interface that allows you to quickly connect with friends and family. He will also present new video tools, which enjoy such popularity on the platform: more than 410 million people connect each month by video chat on Messenger, Facebook rating, and users spend 2 billion minutes per day to the different video offers of Facebook. A new feature, co-watch, will help people watch videos together remotely. And another will allow them to easily share videos.
Facebook also revealed that it was now testing a Messenger desktop application for Windows and Mac.
"Users want to send messages transparently from any device. Sometimes they just want a little more space to share and connect with the people who matter most to them, "says Sharma. "You can download Messenger Desktop – and enjoy the same features as the app on your phone – like group video calls, collaboration on projects or multiple tasks while chatting in Messenger. We are testing this now and we will be deploying it around the world later this year. "
Finally, Facebook will perform all communications in Messenger from end-to-end encrypted by default.
