Facebook says it's going to build anti-glare glasses and map the world

Facebook confirmed (again) that it was manufacturing augmented reality glasses and announced a project called "Live Maps", which will create 3D maps of the world. At the Oculus Connect developer conference today, Andrew Bosworth, head of augmented reality on Facebook and virtual reality, said the company had "some" prototypes of anti-glare glasses, although it does not. did not provide details about them.

Facebook also described Live Maps in terms of aspirations. According to one video, he will produce "multi-layered representations of the world" using crowdsourcing data, traditional maps, and footage shot using telephones and augmented reality glasses. The video shows some familiar potential uses, such as the projection of air notifications, the identification of objects with labels or even the projection of a holographic avatar to meet real people. . It's unclear how (or if) Facebook would protect privacy when collecting all this data. After all, Google's Street View system, which also captured data about the physical world, raised troubling legal issues.
