Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced on Wednesday that the company would no longer recommend civic and political groups to its users.
The change comes in the wake of the insurgency on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
“This is a continuation of the work we’ve been doing for some time to turn down the heat and discourage confrontational conversations,” Zuckerberg said on a call with analysts following the company’s fourth quarter results.
This comes after the company temporarily decided to stop recommending these groups to US users in October in the run-up to the 2020 US election.
Additionally, Zuckerberg said the company is now considering reducing the amount of political content that users see in their News Feed.
“One of the main comments we are hearing from our community right now is that people don’t want politics and fighting to take over their experience on our services,” Zuckerberg said.
