Fact Check: President Trump Uses Out Of Context Video To Spread Fake Mail-In Voting Information

“You watch BALLOTS”, the president claimed in his video legend. “Is this where our country has come to?”

The video released by the president isn’t the only video circulating the internet showing similar scenes of workers collecting legally filed ballots in Los Angeles County. Reuters has already refuted similar claims.

Less than an hour after the president posted the video on Twitter, it has been viewed more than 2 million times.

The LA County Clerk said he closed and locked all ballot boxes at 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 3, preventing anyone from submitting late ballots.

Shortly after the president’s tweet, the LA County Clerk reaffirmed that the ballots were “valid and legally cast ballots” that were “collected and processed by authorized election officials under the California Elections Code.” .

This post was retweeted by Trump’s own person, Christopher Krebs, director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, in what appears to be a rebuke of the president’s innuendo. Krebs has spoken more and more about the fight against disinformation, including things that the president’s own supporters are spreading.

“There is no credible evidence of significant voter fraud or systematic problems in this election,” Mahood told CNN in an email.

The president has repeatedly attacked postal voting, trying to erode public confidence in that vote and the election because Democrats made up the overwhelming majority of postal voting.
