LIBERTY County, OH – Falcon Transport Co., announced abruptly over the weekend its official closure.
The news was announced after sending an email to employees of Jayson Calhoun on April 27.
"We regret to inform you that Falcon Transport Co. is not able to continue its activities and will close its doors as of today. Please stop immediately any work you do for the company. You are not supposed to go back to work. Please be on the lookout for any additional information we will send to you regarding this situation, "he wrote.
Several employees told FOX 8 that they had not been notified and that they did not know if they would be paid one day.
Kathy Riehle, who lives in New York, said she was able to talk to a company official about the situation.
"He told me that he was contacting everyone," Riehle said. "He said we could receive our salary on Monday if we could not sue."
According to the federal SAFER system, Falcon has 585 drivers and 723 vehicles.
FOX 8 asked the company for a press release and did not get an answer.
US Congressman Tim Ryan, who represents the region and is a democratic presidential candidate, said the news was heartbreaking and he was looking into the situation.
"We need national policies that help create the new jobs of the future," said Ryan.
"Whenever a firm of this size closes, as in Lordstown, the losses associated with support businesses affect many more people. It's unfortunately a domino effect for many, "Jodi Stoyak, Liberty Township Administrator, told Fox 8.
