Arthur Smith is the new head coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
The team and the former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator agreed on Friday, the organization said. Smith replaces Dan Quinn and Raheem Morris. Quinn was sacked by the Falcons after a rocky start, and Morris was named interim coach but was not promoted.

Smith, 38, has been with the Titans for 10 seasons, the last two of which was as offensive coordinator under coach Mike Vrabel. The Titans finished 10th for runs scored and 12th for yards gained in 2019, and fourth for runs scored and second for yards gained in 2020. Tennessee have made the playoffs in both seasons.
Atlanta could use a boost on offense, something they haven’t seen since Kyle Shanahan led the offense.

The Falcons have gone to the playoffs twice and lost Super Bowl LI to the New England Patriots in overtime after taking a 28-3 lead. Atlanta made the playoffs during the 2017 season, but was fired from the division round. Atlanta hasn’t returned since.
In Quinn’s day, Atlanta finished in the top 10 for five-time yards but only finished in the top 10 for two-time runs. The team was led by Matt Ryan on quarterback and Julio Jones on wide receiver. The team could use another weapon or use their aging veterans enough to return to the playoffs.
Titans wide receiver AJ Brown gave Smith his seal of approval on Twitter.
