Falcons to play 2021 home game in London

London calls and the Atlanta Falcons answer. It was announced Thursday night that the Falcons will serve as the home team in a regular season game at Tottenham Hotspur in 2021. It is currently unclear when the regular season game will be and who the Falcons will face, but we know it will be in October.

The game itself should come as no surprise as the Falcons were scheduled to “host” the Denver Broncos to London during the 2020 regular season. Obviously, the game has been tweaked to become an Atlanta home game in Atlanta due to of the pandemic.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank has this to say about the game in London last year:

“The NFL has had great experiences in London. Every game is sold out and fans are full of energy no matter who is playing it. The facilities are exceptional so I really couldn’t be happier that we were going back.

Although we don’t know the specific opponent yet, we can start to guess the team opponent. Here are some other winnowing possibilities from new ESPN Falcons reporter Michael Rothstein:

Overall, this is great news for Falcons fans living abroad, but it will be a different schedule than anything the team has ever played. The Falcons will technically have 7 real home games in Atlanta and 10 away games with one of those games in London, where they are the “home” team. It will be interesting to see if the team can overcome this and put on a quality season in 2021, but either way we hope for a victory away from home.
