During a 40-minute interview with the MinnMax Show, Mediatonic senior designer Joe Walsh said that there may come a time when certain levels of Fall Guys could be reused or completely retired.
“I would be very happy to be at the point where we have so many [levels] it’s time to start removing some of it, “Walsh said.” I think we’re a long way off, probably. I mean, we’re going to be keeping an eye on them and if there are some that don’t stand the test of time, we can either reuse them or change them and things like that. I think it’s quite on the table, but for now we sort of see the best version of Fall Guys as you hit go and there are a hundred variations of that. first level or something like that. “
While it’s unclear how many levels Mediatonic has in development for Fall Guys at this time, the studio has already confirmed that the game will receive a new one in an upcoming update.
That’s not all Walsh discussed in his interview with MinnMax. He also spoke about how the team is looking at new ways to play Fall Guys (which may include cross play, teams and a ranked mode), the success of the game, the possibility of a level editor, And much more.
One of the most interesting conversations in the interview centered around inspiration for the Fall Guys Hex-A-Gone minigame. Walsh said he was watching TNT Run, a Minecraft minigame in which pedestrian platforms explode and disappear after being hit, when the mode appeared to him.
“I watched an online Minecraft mini-game tournament and saw them play something called TNT Run – which is very similar to [Hex-A-Gone] basically – and I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is a Fall Guys trick. It would work so perfectly. It’s so physical, it’s so stupid, ”Walsh said.
Elsewhere, Walsh confirmed that Mediatonic had “no plan” to make Fall Guys free-to-play. He also said that a level editor could come but would require a lot of consideration before it is implemented and clarified that the reason Fall Guys does not have an announcer is because the team finds the auto- Commenting on Twitch is better for the game’s personality. Walsh said never say never, however.
In other Fall Guys news, the game hit a huge player count in its first 24 hours, garnering 1.5 million players on PlayStation and Steam. Mediatonic is already cracking down on cheaters. And while it’s only on PC and PlayStation at the moment, the team is eyeing other platforms if there’s enough demand.
We scored the game a 7/10 in GameSpot’s Fall Guys review, saying, “With its short games and easy-to-understand mechanics, Fall Guys is by far the most accessible and welcoming battle royale to date. . “
