A toddler who was cut from the belly of a Chicago woman with a butcher knife died Friday in a hospital where he was in a deplorable state since the attack that killed his mother in April said family spokesmen.

Yovanny Jadiel Lopez died of a serious brain injury at the Christ Medical Center in the Oak Lawn suburb, according to a statement posted on Facebook by family spokeswoman Julie Contreras, who expressed her "sadness" announcing the baby's death The spokeswoman for the family, Cecilia Garcia, confirmed this statement.

According to the prosecutor, Clarisa Figueroa, 46, reportedly gave birth to the baby. She and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, are charged with the murder of the baby's mother, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, and Chicago police spokeswoman Anthony Guglielmi, said Friday. he expected the two women to be charged with murder in the infant's death.

Prosecutors "decide on additional charges" after police and county medical officer's office complete investigations, said Cook County Attorney's Office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton in a written statement .

Piotr Bobak, Clarisa Figueroa's boyfriend, is accused of concealing a homicide. The three accused must be back in court on June 26.

Garcia said the family had decided to remove the baby or not from vital support at the child's death.

The Christ Medical Center said in a statement that his "hearts and prayers" belonged to the baby's family and that "their courage and grace aroused the admiration of our entire organization."

Authorities say that shortly after Clarisa Figueroa's adult son died of natural causes, she told her family that she was pregnant. They say that she has been plotting for months to acquire a newborn and that she has posted an ultrasound and pictures of a baby decorated room on her Facebook page. In March, she and Ochoa-Lopez connected to a Facebook page for pregnant women.

The two men met for the first time in person around April 1, when Mr. Ochoa-Lopez went to the Figueroa's home and left unharmed, prosecutors said. The teenager returned on April 23 to accept the offer of free baby clothes from Clarisa Figueroa. While Desiree Figueroa showed Ochoa-Lopez a photo album of her late brother to distract her, Clarisa Figueroa snuck behind her and strangled her with a rope.

Once Ochoa-Lopez stopped showing signs of life, Clarisa Figueroa cut off the baby from her belly and she and her daughter wrapped the teenager's body in a blanket, l & # 39; placed in a plastic bag and dragged out in a bin, according to prosecutors.

Later in the day, Clarisa Figueroa called 911 stating that her newborn was not breathing. When first responders arrived, the child was blue. They tried to resuscitate the infant and took him to Christ Medical Center, where he remained until his death.
