The family of a 21-year-old man who was shot and killed by Montgomery County police on Friday outside a McDonald’s is questioning the department.

Ryan Leroux, 21, was shot and killed at a McDonald’s in Gaithersburg. His father said police fired 24 shots.

Police said Leroux was in a car with a gun in the front seat.

We hear an officer on the radio say, “He’s sitting in the car. The gun is in the passenger seat. I move back. He does not answer.

Ryan’s dad, Paul Leroux, told News4 his son is having a hard time. He had a mental health problem and had lost his job, his grandmother and his longtime girlfriend. Ryan was living off his car and recently legally bought a gun for his own protection.

Paul Leroux said he saw part of the police video again and did not see a gun in his son’s hand.

“They all fire at him and he supposedly raised a handgun. If you want to know my point of view, he put his hands up. He just put his hands up. There is nothing they have. could show or prove that he raised his handgun. Nothing. And then they went mad, “said Paul.

“We are conducting an independent investigation which will be reviewed by the state attorney’s office. This will decide whether the actions were justified by the officers, ”said Carmen Facciolo, deputy civilian chief for Montgomery County.
