Days after attending a rally that led to a deadly right-wing insurgency on the U.S. Capitol, LA independent musician Ariel Pink attempted to defend his actions on Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s show Thursday.
“I had no choice, I have nothing else to do,” said Pink, looking shaken and nervous. “I can’t even afford my lawyer at the moment.”
Pink, a acclaimed but antagonistic element of Los Angeles’ experimental music scene, has become an unlikely far-right martyr-hero after photos of him attending the Jan. 6 “Stop the Steal” rally (along with another artist from ‘local avant-garde John Maus) have surfaced.
Within hours, Pink was abandoned by her label Mexican Summer and suffered a backlash from fans. “Due to recent events, Mexican Summer and her staff have decided to end our working relationship with Ariel Rosenberg AKA Ariel Pink to move forward,” the label said in a statement after the rally.
Pink had already appeared on Fox News in 2013 and had recently expressed support for Trump. “I just think the trump is the only thing stopping total collapse. the lying media psychopaths for the Biden / Harris presidency are more terrifying to me, ”he wrote in December.
But on Carlson’s show, Pink attempted to explain his presence at a rally that resulted in a violent crowd of President Trump’s supporters taking the seat of government by seat.
