Taylor Swift returned Wednesday night to the MGM Grand Garden Arena, where she opened the 2019 Billboard Music Awards with her new single "ME!" – in a performance that had viewers claiming that she copied Beyoncé.

Swift was backed by bright, pastel dancers and star guest Brendon Urie of Panic! at the disco, coming down from the ceiling with an umbrella. There were also dancers spinning in the air with umbrellas.

But it's the fanfare that launched Swift's performance that makes the Internet vibrate.

Many viewers have accused the 29-year-old singer of having "copied" Beyoncé's Coachella decor for 2018 – highlighted in Netflix's recent Homecoming documentary – which included a group show.

"Taylor Swift is copying Beyonce again, her fanfare was better #BBMAs," a viewer on Twitter wrote.

Echoes another individual: "Taylor Swift here copying Beyoncé's performance at Coachella. #BillboardMusicAwards."

"Who is this act of opening that copies #Beyonce with the fanfare? … Ughh. It's #TaylorSwift #BBMAs," tweeted a person.

"I love Taylor and all, but she did the same thing. @Beyonce did it," wrote another.

"Taylor Swift does not use fanfare, it's not" to copy Beyonce ", but all are really REACHING." Taylor literally has a full 2009 song / clip / tour using a character / outfit from fanfare anyway, goodbye " tweeted a person. "The drums and colorful costumes do not come exclusively from Beyoncé", wrote another viewer.

Commented a person: "You know that @ taylorswift13 m had been recorded a long time ago, so Taylor did not imitate Beyonce's drum line – try again."

Swift is nominated for two awards – the best female artist and the best artist on tour – during the live broadcast on NBC. She has already won 32 Billboard Music Awards.
