An MLB game between the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres escalated Saturday night after gunfire rang out near Nationals Park in Washington, forcing players and fans to flee to safety.
Videos of the incident quickly spread to social media, with the Nationals’ Twitter account confirming the gunfire outside the stadium. You could see players and fans running for cover.
“Something crazy is going on in Nationals Park,” tweeted Boston Globe sports reporter Ben Volin. “The players have just sprinted off the field and the fans are running from the stands.”
Four people outside the stadium were hit by gunfire, although none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, a source from the DC Metropolitan Police Department told Fox News.

Two of the victims were found injured outside the stadium while two others were treated at a nearby hospital, FOX 5 from Washington reported.
The area near the stadium has recently seen an upsurge in gun violence, the police source said. Among the recent incidents, an Uber driver was the victim of a carjacking and killed by suspicious teenagers.
The gunfire came just one night after a 6-year-old girl was shot dead in the nation’s capital, and five adults were injured in the same incident.
The stadium’s public announcer told fans to stay inside the park.
The match was in the sixth inning at the time of the incident.

Just after 10 p.m., the Nationals issued a statement, saying the game had been suspended and would resume at 1:05 p.m. Sunday, followed by the game that was already scheduled for Sunday. The Padres were leading 8-4 when Saturday’s game was disrupted.
The Washington Nationals posted on Twitter that gunfire had been reported.
