Cyndi Lauper said goodbye to 2020 in the most appropriate way: by giving a shocking performance on live television.
The 67-year-old pop star performed “True Colors” and “Hope” on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin ‘Eve With Ryan Seacrest” on ABC Thursday night.
After being joined by Seacrest, Billy Porter and Lucy Hale for “True Colors,” Lauper’s glamor team attempted to give it some touch-ups, leading the singer to shout, “I’m in front of the camera! I’m in front of the camera! ”
The chaotic performance was reminiscent of diva Mariah Carey’s disastrous New Years Eve 2016 performance, in which she was unable to hear her own song, eventually giving up and standing on the stage with her mouth closed and one hand on her hip. .
“Well, happy new year. We can’t hear, but I’ll just go over the moves, ”she huffed, adding later,“ I’m trying to be a good sport here. “
Lauper debuted with “Hope” during the initial coronavirus lockdown in March. But even that apparently wasn’t enough time to get the right grades. On stage, she jumped while trying to sing in harmony.
Twitter was quick to call the performance less than ideal, with many pointing to the stylist’s embarrassing moment.
“Cyndi Lauper’s performance was the last punishment for 2020,” wrote @ Daviesallison1A.
“If you thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse, you weren’t watching this performance by Cyndi Lauper #bigyikes“, Has published @Scudpat.
“Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter looked like two 8-year-olds putting on a ‘show’ for adults with the intention of requesting a sleepover afterwards,” said @alysha_share.
“Drunken aunts have taken over New Years Eve in Times Square,” joked @ RetepM82.
