Bay Area rap fans say they feel shocked and devastated after a San Francisco rap artist was shot and killed in Dublin over the weekend.

“He’s a Bay Area legend, nothing can ever replace Lil Yase,” fan Aaron Hein said.

Police say the 26-year-old man, real name Mark Antonyyo Alexander, was shot several times early Saturday morning, but who did it and why remains a mystery.

In fact, we don’t even know why he was in East Bay.

“We really don’t understand why he was here in Dublin,” said Captain Nate Schmidt of the Dublin Police Department. “We know he lives in San Francisco, has a production company in Novato, so what was the connection with the city of Dublin.”

The police found his car parked along this street. They say he was gunned down outside his car on the 5100 block of Iron Horse Parkway. He pointed to a Good Samaritan who took him to the hospital.

“The conversation they had while they went to the hospital was limited, but he was conscious and unconscious,” Schmidt said.

Police said the Good Samaritan said the rapper mentioned someone attempted to steal his watch, a theory they are investigating.

“I think it was targeted. I believe the person was at least someone who knew Mr. Alexander, ”Schmidt said.

Although Lil Yase raps about guns and life on the streets, his friend and business partner tells NBC Bay Area that he was nothing like his lyrics, calling him a smart and genuine artist ready to work with. anybody.

Fans say they’re crushed

“We will never know its full potential unfortunately,” said fan Aaron Hein. “It’s a life lost too soon.”

Dublin Police scour social media and phone records, hoping for clues. They say this is only the second homicide in their city since 2009, and everything is on the bridge to solve it.
