Dakota Johnson’s interview with Ellen DeGeneres in November 2019 was shared widely online, and fans are now celebrating the one-year anniversary of this momentous moment.
During the interview, Johnson kindly but firmly corrected DeGeneres when DeGeneres accused the actress of not inviting her to a birthday party.
“Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen,” Johnson said after DeGeneres brought up the snub.
The actress called on multiple DeGeneres producers to support her (about 50 seconds in the video below).

It’s been a tough year for the talk show host, whose mantra of “being kind” has been called into question in recent months.
Many seemingly awkward interviews DeGeneres did with other stars on her show have resurfaced, including one in which she poked fun at Sofia Vergara’s Colombian accent. (Vergara told fans that she “was never a victim” and was “always in the joke.”)
Former “Ellen Show” employees, including a producer and a DJ, accused her of acting rude and creating a toxic environment on set.
Australian radio host Neil Breen said he was told not to talk, watch or approach DeGeneres when he worked with her in 2013.
In July, the show’s parent company, WarnerMedia, launched an internal investigation into the show’s corporate culture. Variety reported that an “employee relations group and a third-party company” are conducting the investigation, asking current and former employees about their time spent on set.
DeGeneres addressed the “issues” on his show in a letter to staff in late July. The host doubled down on her comments at the season premiere of “The Ellen Show” in September.
“I’ve learned that things have happened here that should never have happened. I take this very seriously,” DeGeneres said in his opening monologue. “I mean I’m so sorry for the people who were affected.
“I know I’m in a position of privilege and power. And I’ve realized that comes with responsibility,” she continued. “And I take responsibility for what happens on my show. It’s ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’.”
