The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is growing.
The third installment of “Fantastic Beasts”, the prequel series to “Harry Potter”, hits theaters earlier than expected.
“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” will now premiere in theaters on April 15, 2022. The fantasy film was originally slated for release on July 15.
The official title and release date were announced via the franchise’s Instagram account on Wednesday. The series takes place several decades before Harry, Ron, and Hermione entered the world of Hogwarts. The films focus on Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne), who becomes a close friend of a young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).
“Professor Albus Dumbledore knows that the mighty dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is about to take control of the wizarding world,” the film’s official synopsis read, according to Variety. Unable to stop him on his own, he entrusts magizoologist Newt Scamander with leading a fearless team of wizards, witches and a brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter beasts old and new and face off against the Legion. growing followers of Grindelwald. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore be on the sidelines?
The third film “Fantastic Beasts” follows “Fantastic Beasts and where to find them” from 2016 and “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” from 2018.
The third film sparked discussion among Potterheads in November when Johnny Depp left Warner Bros. production. The 58-year-old actor, who played villainous Gellert Grindelwald, left the show when he lost his libel case against UK publication The Sun after he published an article in 2018 calling him a “woman’s drummer.”
Mads Mikkelsen replaces Depp as Grindelwald, joining actors Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Jessica Williams.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” megastar is still paid for the third film “Fantastic Beasts” despite her dismissal. Depp will be compensated over $ 10 million for a small scene in the new film.
