Fantasy General 2 Invasion throws hexes again in 2019

Fantasy General was probably the first hexagon-based strategy game I could understand, so the announcement made today by Fantasy General 2: Invasion fills me with curiosity. Developed by Owned by Gravity and intended to be published by the Slitherine Strategy House, it is once again a hex-based wargame filled with elves, goblins, and elephants. sorcerers. Unlike the original (a fun fallout but scattershot from the Panzer General series), the developers aim to make it a little more consistent and story-centric. Below, the first trailer, plus some footage from a live developer earlier today.

The dev-stream below is an interesting watch. Owned by Gravity, after replaying the original Fantasy General movie, discovered he was not up to their nostalgic image. Although it was still a good strategy game for 1996, time and entropy had filled many gaps in its design with imaginary qualities they wanted to represent later. One of the most important is the emphasis on the story and character, the hero units reacting to the decisions you make throughout history, or even leaving if they think you have gone astray too far from their personal path.

There will be several campaigns, each focused on one of the playable factions. The first time they talked about being the barbarian faction, described as a mix of Nordic and Celtic concepts, with forest friends and monsters. At first, they will fight each other, and then clash with the Empire, a vaguely Roman faction that safeguards their number of undead minions. The game is mission-based, as in the original, with multiple goals and basics, although the multiplayer mode is of course expected. I cross my fingers so that they are up to their own nostalgic vision and deliver a series worthy of the name 23 years later.

Although there is no release date on Fantasy General 2: Invasion yet, they are aiming to release the game this year, and take the beta listings here. He also has a store page on Steam.
