DENVER (KKTV) – A disturbing discovery in Denver culminated in murder charges against a Colorado boy's father.
On December 23, 2018, the Denver District Attorney's Office reported that the authorities found a dog carrier in a storage unit. In the dog carrier was a large block of cement. What was found in this cement block led to murder charges for the death of a 7-year-old boy.
"What began as a call for domestic violence directed at the Aurora Police Department quickly evolved into an investigation into a homicide, as the police officers who were involved in it were sufficiently vigilant to ensure the safety of the children involved, Said District Attorney McCann. "We have now involved both parents in this really horrible crime."
Leland Pankey is the biological father of Caden McWilliams, 7 years old. Caden's body was found in the cement block that was in a dog carrier hidden in a Colorado storage unit. On Thursday, Pankey was charged with first degree murder, child abuse resulting in the death and falsification of a dead human being. Charges have also been filed against the boy's mother, Elisha Pankey.
According to court records released on Thursday, Elisha Pankey told investigators in March that her husband had kept Caden in a kennel for days before his death in July.
On February 28, the autopsy report indicated that Caden had died as a result of an indeterminate homicide, with child abuse being an important factor.
