Dr Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top disease specialist, warned last month that President Trump was “asking for trouble” by organizing large rallies amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but has so far kept silence on nationwide celebrations over President-elect Joe Biden’s projected victory.
Fauci, 79, made the comments during an Oct. 12 interview on CNN to discuss Trump’s decision to hold campaign rallies despite his recovery from COVID-19.
“We know it causes problems when you do that,” Fauci told host Jake Tapper. “We know that when you have rally situations where there are a lot of people without masks, the data speaks for itself.”
Fauci said the nation’s inability to “get things under control” before moving into fall and winter was “a recipe for disaster.”

Trump announced on October 1 that he and the first lady had tested positive for COVID-19. He held a rally in Sanford, Florida less than two weeks later, claiming he had recovered from the virus.
But Fauci, and other health experts, have remained silent on the celebrations taking place across the country over the weekend in response to Biden’s victory. Fox News has made several attempts to contact Dr Fauci, as well as members of the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) and National Institutes of Health (NIH), for comment.

After Biden’s victory was announced on Saturday, several video clips appeared online showing thousands of people crammed into major cities across the country. While some could be seen wearing face masks, countless attendees appeared to be violating social distancing rules.
Neither Biden nor his campaign team have expressed concerns that some of these celebrations could be contributing to the spread of the coronavirus.
Interestingly, CNN’s Tapper acknowledged the risk of the coronavirus spreading on Saturday during these celebrations for Biden’s victory.

“I hate to be a scolder here, but we just had the highest infection day in the United States,” Tapper said during a CNN roundtable after Biden’s victory. “I believe that yesterday 125,000 Americans had new coronavirus infections. It was the third day in a row of over 100,000 infections. It’s good to see people wearing masks – although for some of them them they slip from their faces. ”

As of Sunday, the United States recorded more than 9,926,600 cases of the new coronavirus with more than 237,000 deaths, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
