Fauci says based on current CDC, FDA data, there is no need for a recall

“Well, sure they could theoretically. What the CDC and the FDA were saying, Jake, is that right now, given the data and information we have, we don’t need to give people a third injection, a layered boost. at the two doses you get with mRNA and the one dose you get with [Johnson&Johnson]”said Fauci.

However, Fauci said research is currently underway to determine whether those guidelines will change. He cautioned that the current guidelines do not imply that they will not be changed later.

“But that doesn’t mean we’re stopping … I mean there are studies going on right now, going on as we talk about the feasibility of whether and when we should stimulate people.” So it’s not something that we say, “No we don’t need a boost right now, the story is over forever,” Fauci said.

“No, there’s a lot of work going on to look at this in real time to see if we might need a boost, but at the moment, given the data the CDC and the FDA have, they don’t. don’t think we need to tell people right now, you need to be boosted, ”Fauci added.

Tapper asked, “I wonder, are you worried at all, that if the CDC and the FDA change their recommendations and boosters become recommended in a few months, some Americans will see it as, and some demagogues in the media and the politician will describe this as another tipping point and will it undermine confidence in the FDA and CDC? ”

Fauci acknowledged that Tapper made a valid point, but explained that the CDC and FDA are working from the current data.

“Yeah. Well, Jake, I mean you’ve got a really good point there, inevitably something like that will happen,” Fauci said. “I think what people need to figure out, and it really is important to understand this is that when you have an organization like the CDC and the FDA that are responsible for the regulatory elements of what we do, as well as public health, when they make a formal recommendation, it has to be based on data that proves we need to move in that direction.

Fauci pointed out that while “well-meaning companies” and doctors may make their own recommendations, these are different from the formal recommendations of the CDC and the FDA.

“If you look at formal recommendations from organizations, they’re always data driven, and like we’ve said so often, Jake, data changes, you get more information over time, so when you get there to the fact that you have enough information to make a firm recommendation, this is not an about-face. It makes recommendations as the data evolves, ”added Fauci.
