An elected official from New Mexico – who co-founded the Cowboys for Trump group – was arrested by the FBI on Sunday for his alleged role in the Capitol riot.
Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner, was arrested after filming himself on the steps of the Capitol the day a mob of Trump supporters attacked the legislative building, federal officials told KVIA-TV.
At a meeting of commissioners Thursday, Griffin vowed to return to Washington, DC on inauguration day armed with guns to “embrace” the Second Amendment, the outlet separately reported.
Griffin had called the Capitol seat “a great day for America,” according to the report.

Griffin had said he did not harm or assault anyone on the day of the riot.
The New Mexico attorney general called Griffin to resign Sunday night.

The charges Griffin will face were not immediately clear.
