FBI raids NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association headquarters

The Manhattan office of the NYPD’s Sergeants Benevolent Association was raided by federal agents Tuesday morning, a senior police source said.

FBI investigators have visited the Worth Street office as part of an investigation into the union, led by union president and pro-policeman Ed Mullins.

Mullins’ home in Port Washington was also searched, sources said.

Details of the union investigation are unclear, but the raids are part of a long-term investigation, a police source said.

In a statement, FBI spokesman Martin Feely confirmed the investigation but did not elaborate.

“We are taking legal action as part of an ongoing investigation. I cannot confirm the details of the investigation, ”Feely said in an email to The Post.

Mullins, a fierce critic of Mayor Bill de Blasio, made headlines last year when the SBA tweeted a confidential and unwritten arrest report for de Blasio’s daughter Chiara after she was arrested during a demonstration of George Floyd in the city.

“How can the NYPD protect New York City from anarchist riots when the mayor’s daughter is one of them.” We now know why he prohibits the mobilization of mounted units and prevents the NYPD from doing its job, ”the SBA tweet read.

Mullins faces trial on internal charges relating to the tweet and other social media posts.

De Blasio told an independent press conference on Tuesday that he had heard that the union office had been raided by the federal government.

“All I was told was that the FBI raided the SBA headquarters,” de Blasio said, declining to comment further.
