CANTON – With the flu season hitting hardest on the residents of northeastern Ohio, Stark County hospitals have placed restrictions on hospital visitors as a precaution.

Mercury County Hospitals, Mercy Medical Center, Aultman Hospital and Aultman Alliance Community put in place restrictions on influenza visits.

Here are the rules until further notice to protect visitors and patients:

  • Visitors under 14 years old are not allowed to enter the treatment areas to visit patients.
  • All visitors should wash their hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based disinfectant before and after the patient's visit.
  • Visitors who have flu-like symptoms or colds (fever, cough, body aches, sneezing or runny nose) are advised not to visit patients until their condition is not well.
  • Visitors are kindly reminded to cover their coughs and sneezes

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect the fact that the decision was made directly by Stark County hospitals, not by the Canton City Health Department, as previously stated. The health department has only relayed the hospital's decision on social media.
