Fear Street 3’s ending explained

The third movie, for the first hour at least, might bring back characters like Kiana Madeira, Ashley Zukerman, and Olivia Welch, but they don’t play the characters we’ve known from the first two movies.

Instead, they all play characters in 1666 who had a role in Sarah Fier’s hanging. Madeira stars as the supposed witch, and Welch plays Sarah’s lover, Hannah Miller, in a beautiful echo of Deena and Sam’s relationship in 1994.

But there is no time travel as it is revealed that Deena only sees the events that took place in 1666, the events that led to the creation of the curse that has haunted Shadyside for centuries. In the big twist of the film, it’s revealed that it wasn’t Sarah Fier’s fault – it was Sheriff Goode (Zukerman) Solomon Goode’s ancestor.

One night, as Sarah and Hannah were getting intimate in the woods, Solomon broke into the house of Widow Mary (Jordana Spiro, who played Ruby Lane’s mother in the other two films) and stole her spellbook.

He then used a spell, titled “Simple Exchange,” to strike a deal with the Devil in exchange for his prosperity. All Solomon had to do was offer a “one soul” every few years, turning them into murderers so the devil could feed on the blood of their victims.

The first victim of this curse was Pastor Miller, who killed 12 children including Sarah’s sister. However, as rumors about Sarah and Hannah’s relationship spread around Union Colony, they were accused of sleeping with the devil and putting the curse on everyone.

Solomon used this to his advantage and when Sarah slipped out of his clutches (not before cutting off his hand, spirit) he caught up with her and offered her to his fellow Union colleagues. Sarah and Hannah were to be hanged as witches, but Sarah saved Hannah by confessing to being a witch and claiming that she had bewitched the pastor.

As Solomon was preparing to be hanged by Solomon, she offered him a warning: “The truth will come out … The truth will be your curse.” She will follow you for eternity. I will shade you forever. I’ll show them what you did. I will never let you go.

After Sarah died, her friends moved her body from under the hanging tree so no one would know where she was, and left the sign we saw in 1978 (“the witch lives forever”). We thought anyone bleeding on Sarah’s body condemned themselves to be kicked out, but that was just Sarah’s way of showing them what had been done to her in 1666.

The film then returns to Deena at Sarah’s grave in 1994 as Sheriff Nick Goode arrives, kicking off the bloody climax of the trilogy (or Street of Fear 1994: Part 2 as the movie says). She tells Josh (Benjamin Flores Jr) everything and they steal Nick’s police car when he tries to find them in the woods.

Nick continued the affair with the devil that Solomon started in 1666, offering someone from Shadyside to the devil and turning them into killers. As a result, he gets whatever he wants, as does his family, and Sunnyvale gets “better and better” (Union was split into Shadyside and Sunnyvale when the settlement ended).

The Undead Slayers weren’t going after Deena, Sam and co because Sarah had taken a liking to their blood, they were sent by the devil to keep the Goode family secret from coming out. Since Deena now knows everything, all of the killers start to come back to life and she clearly needs a plan.

Using the help of Ziggy (Gillian Jacobs) – who had unwittingly helped Nick find Deena when she thought he could help – and Shadyside Mall janitor, Martin (Darrell Britt-Gibson), they craft a plan to attract killers. at the mall and trap them inside, before throwing them at Nick when he arrives sprinkling Deena’s blood on him.

It doesn’t quite go as planned and ends up with Deena chasing Nick through the tunnels under Shadyside, the same ones Sarah tried to escape through in 1666, which led to where the Goode family had been. performed its ritual over the years.

As Josh, Ziggy, and Martin battle the undead killers in the mall, Nick stabs Deena (unaware that she was wearing a body armor made of books) and she puts her hand on the organ mound. that we saw in 1978 growing since the curse began.

Nick sees flashes of everyone murdered as a result of Goode’s deal with the devil over the years, including Sarah herself, giving Deena time to stab Nick in the eye to end the curse once and for all. The undead killers disappear and Sam is freed from the possession of the devil.

When Deena and Sam enter Nick’s luxurious home in Sunnyvale (also connected to the tunnels), they witness a car crash. We hear a report that ‘all is not good in Sunnyvale’ and how evidence has surfaced of Nick’s involvement in all of the recent deaths at Shadyside.

Ziggy goes to Ms. Lane to return the diary she stole in 1978, Josh meets the girl he spoke to online, and Deena and Sam create a memorial to Sarah in the woods which names her “the first Shadysider” .

Happy ending, right? Not enough. A brief credits scene returns to the tunnels and we see the spellbook again. Right before it goes dark, someone catches it and, who knows, maybe the curse will start all over again …
