Since their release Friday, many are turning to social media, swearing to stay away from Santa Cruz, because of the fear that they have after watching the movie.

Sadie Satanas lives in front of the boardwalk and says she knows all the places where director Jordan Peele filmed his latest blockbuster movie.

"Being a horror movie fan, you can imagine my shock by looking at my doors and seeing Jordan Peele filming his new horror film in front of my home," Satanas said. "It was awesome."

She says the movie is scary but finds all the fun reviews.

"When people said that our city had been canceled, I thought it was hilarious! Santa Cruz will never be canceled."

The film focuses on a family who visits Santa Cruz for holidays and is attacked by suspects, who are best described as their double evil body.

At the local level, many people see a craze for local tourism.

"The film was aired for the first time on Friday and we had a very strong weekend … especially in our haunted attractions," said Kris Reyes of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

Christina Glynn, of the Visit Santa Cruz organization, said: "What I believe is that it can reach an audience that otherwise would not have thought of coming to Santa Cruz. "

Sheriyan Bradford and Victoria Ocana are both from San Diego and UC UC Santa Cruz. They say they are not afraid, but say that all the hype adds to their visit on the sidewalk.

"If you're strongly influenced by movies, I'd say stay away, but I'm not that kind of person, I'll come back, even after the movie," says Bradford. Referring to the film, she jokingly adds, "I have not seen anyone who looks like me, I should be fine!"
