Federal judge deals heavy blow to New York teachers’ vaccination mandate

“We are confident that our immunization mandate will continue to be met once all the facts have been presented, as this is the level of protection our students and staff deserve,” Filson said in an email.

She said more than 82% of the department’s employees have been vaccinated.

While most school workers have been vaccinated, unions representing New York City principals and teachers have warned that the one-million-student school system could still miss up to 10,000 teachers, as well as other staff, such as cafeteria workers and school police.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has resisted calls to delay the term.
