MEMPHIS, Tennessee – FedEx joins Amazon and other companies launching an autonomous robot for last-mile deliveries

According to a company announcement, the robot will help retailers deliver their customers the same day and last mile. FedEx indicates that over 60% of retailer customers live within five kilometers of their establishment.

Retailers will be able to use the bot to place orders to nearby customers on the same day. FedEx also collaborates with AutoZone, Lowe's, Pizza Hut, Target, Walgreens and Walmart to assess retailers' stand-alone delivery needs.

The robot will circulate on the sidewalks and along the roads. It will be equipped with technology to make it safe for pedestrians, including multiple cameras and will calculate algorithms to detect and avoid obstacles.

The bot will be tested this summer in Memphis, Tennessee and other markets.
