Felicity Huffman plead guilty in a scam at college admission

BOSTON (AP) – Actress Felicity Huffman is scheduled to plead guilty on Monday on charges that she paid 15,000 US dollars to rig her daughter's SAT score as part of a fraud ploy. admissions to a national college.

The star of "Desperate Housewives" is expected to plead in a federal court in Boston two months after his arrest in the "Operation Varsity Blues" case, accusing wealthy parents of paying bribes to help their children to enter the country's elite universities. .

Huffman, 56, is one of 14 parents who pleaded guilty to the charges in this case. Authorities have described this scandal as the biggest fraud scandal of college admissions in the United States, engulfing Hollywood stars and business executives, as well as coaches in prestigious schools such as Georgetown and Yale.

Parents are accused of having paid an admissions consultant to bribe coaches in exchange for helping their kids get into school as sports recruits. The consultant, Rick Singer, has also paid the admissions review admins to allow a supervisor to take tests for students or correct their answers, authorities said.

Huffman paid Singer $ 15,000 for a supervisor to correct his eldest daughter's SAT responses and considered implementing his younger daughter's plan before deciding not to, the authorities said.

Huffman apologized and said that his daughter was not aware of his actions.

Huffman has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest service fraud. Prosecutors said they would seek between four and ten months in prison. Some parents decided to fight the charges.

Co-actress Lori Loughlin and her stylist husband, Mossimo Giannulli, pleaded not guilty to paying $ 500,000 in bribes for their daughters to be recruited by the team, though none of them do not be a rower.

Los Angeles businessman Devin Sloane is also expected to plead guilty on Monday. According to the authorities, he would have paid $ 250,000 to hire his son in USC as a fake water polo rookie.

Sloane, who founded a water and wastewater treatment system business, bought water polo material online and worked with a graphic designer to create a fictional photo of his son playing the sport for the application of the teenager, announced officials.
