Yes, you are reading this correctly. Fiat has released three 500 series cars with the “Hey Google” branding and direct integration with the Google Assistant.
The partnership was confirmed in an official blog post from Google and Fiat respectively with some tweaks that describe how these Hey Google 500 series vehicles differ from the regular fleet. A refresh of the classic bubble car, the Fiat 500 has grown into an incredibly popular mini-sedan across vast swathes of Europe in recent years.
However, we never planned to see this Fiat 500 Family Hey Google, which is a special limited edition of the classic Fiat 500. So it’s a hybrid car, but where is the integration of Google Assistant?
Well, unlike almost all other Fiat cars, you can ask the Google Assistant for key information about your vehicle with neat voice commands such as “Hey Google, ask my Fiat what is my fuel level?” and get feedback on current capacity. That’s not all, as you can even ask to turn the headlights on or off, activate the emergency lights and control the in-car entertainment system.
Fiat even added neat touches to the car itself to help distinguish it from a regular Fiat 500. There are “Hey Google” badges and the colorful Google aesthetic on a Fiat 500, 500L or 500X model. Inside, the car’s upholstery also features neat touches with the colored dots on all passenger seats and “Hey Google” labels on each headrest.
Each of the three vehicles – Fiat 500, 500L and 500X – includes 7-inch touchscreens with built-in Google Assistant. This can connect directly to the Fiat Mopar Connect system which allows you to access and monitor all kinds of statistics and car data points from your phone, tablet or smart screen. You can check where you parked your car, how many miles you have driven that day and – my favorite – if your car is locked / unlocked.
