Fiat Chrysler announces recall of more than 320,000 Dodge Dart sedans likely to disappear

Fiat Chrysler recalls at least 320,000 Dodge Dart compacts likely to roll thanks to a defective shifter cable that could come off the transmission Reuters.

Since the filing with NHTSA, all automatic darts of the 2013 to 2016 model years (ie the vast majority of manufactured darts) are concerned. Specifically, the transmission cable bushings may deteriorate after "prolonged exposure to high ambient heat and humidity" and result in failure of the transmission cable transmission end. If this happens, the driver will not be able to move up a gear, including parking. As you can probably imagine, a car that is not in the park when its driver thinks it is in a park is a pretty serious risk.

FCA is not aware of any collisions or injuries, but says they are aware of "several thousand" related repairs.

To remedy this problem, the transmission-side selector cable bushings will be replaced free of charge by a "more robust" part.

The company plans to inform the concerned owners at the end of May. In the meantime, it is advisable for Dodge Dart automatic owners to set the parking brake and make sure the car is off before getting out of their vehicle.

This is not the first reminder of FCA linked to faulty automatic selectors. In 2016, more than a million Jeeps, Dodges and Chryslers were recalled because they could "run away". This campaign included the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a vehicle owned by the late actor Anton Yelchin. Yelchin died after being stuck between the Jeep and his mailbox. Yelchin's family later sued the automaker for an unjustified death, which was settled "amicably" in 2018.
