(Reuters) – Italian automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCA) has agreed to pay the automaker Tesla Electric Inc. hundreds of millions of euros reported on Sunday.
This measure will allow the Italian manufacturer to offset the carbon dioxide emissions of its cars against those of Tesla, by reducing its average figure to an authorized level, announced the FT.
The report did not mention any other financial details regarding the specific amount Fiat Chrysler had agreed to pay Tesla.
The Italian manufacturer formed an open pool with Tesla on February 25, the report adds, citing a statement to the European Commission.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday. Fiat Chrysler has not addressed directly the amount it would pay, but added that it would "optimize the compliance options proposed by the regulations."
