INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A customer shot a gun at a person who took merchandise from a Circle Center Mall jewelry store on Monday afternoon, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.

IMPD says no one was hurt.

Authorities were looking for a suspect after a gunshot was fired at around 2:30 p.m. Monday at Twin Jewelers in what was originally described as an armed robbery, police said. The store is on the second level near the food court.

“I was outside the store waiting for customers to come in, then we heard a big bang and then people, we just saw people sprinting the other way around and people were screaming, ‘There is a shooter, ”said Madison Carter, who works at a store just below Twin Jewelers.

News 8’s Sierra Hignite reports that a person from the store jumped over a counter to get chains. On leaving the store and heading towards the mall, this person was shot dead by a customer.

An employee told Hignite that stores inside the mall have been told to close while police work to find the suspect. Some stores remained closed shortly before 3:30 p.m.

Police said they recovered an envelope of shells but could not locate a bullet. It is not known at this time if more than one shot was fired.

Police are looking for both the robbery suspect and the man who fired the gun.

Police did not disclose any suspicious information.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
