A fan’s edition of Final Fantasy 7 martial artist group member Tifa Lockhart is making her hair shorter and gaining traction on social media.

There’s no shortage of love for Square Enix’s ever-popular Final fantasy series, especially with the release of Final Fantasy 7 remake. One of the most popular members of his party is martial artist Tifa Lockhart. This character has had tons of cosplays, fan art, and other miscellaneous stuff dedicated to him. All of this solidifies Tifa’s status as an iconic element of FF7, with its equipment and its look so recognizable. However, the one-fan montage manages to completely conquer the fan base, simply giving her shorter hair.

As many fans have loved this character since the game’s release, there are some fans who want to try and give a new twist to the classic look of the character. Some of Tifa’s finest cosplays over the years bear witness to this. There were several modifications or revisions by fans of Tifa’s design, but this fan’s modification was not only adopted by the fan base, it became a new trend that spread like a trail of powder.

Final fantasy 7 the StrawderryST fan recently posted a montage on Twitter that featured a few scenes with Tifa’s now shorter hair, similar to a bob cut. Her initial post called for fan art and photos of the character along with “#TifaShortHair”. This was followed by the posting of Tifa’s first cut to Twitter, which even managed to grab the attention of Square Enix’s Twitter account. From there, fanart, modifications, and more followed.

This trend even managed to catch the Japanese side of the fan base where they started posting their own tributes and comics and contributing to the many short haired Tifa posts. According to Strawderry’s original post, the reason she wanted Tifa short hair pics was because of her redesign in Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children. Tifa had shorter shoulder length hair in this movie, which was due to limited technology at the time, but Strawderry felt it might be an extra thing added to the remake.

This modification was adopted by many members of the Final fantasy 7 fanbase, with several noting how much it accentuates his appearance, or how appropriate it is given his roots in martial arts. Many fans, including Strawderry, have created headcanons that this scene might be possible when Tifa was captured by Scarlet, Shinra’s weapons maker, with Tifa’s hair cut by her. The trend is still going on with more and more fan posts coming in and hopping on the cut, showing fans love Tifa, even with a small change like this.

Final Fantasy 7 remake is available now on PS4 and PS5.
