Final Four: Virginia beats Auburn by 1 point after a last-second foul

Kyle Guy, of the University of Virginia, made three free throws after a dubious call with 0.6 seconds to go after Virginia survived a frantic Auburn rally. The shots gave Virginia a 63-62 lead, sending them to the national championship game for the first time in the school's history.

A year after becoming the # 1 seed to lose at # 16, these seeded Riders now look like the team of fate.

The Cavaliers reached the Final Four for the first time since 1984 with a disconcerting drummer Mahmadi Diakite who will play his Elite Eight game against Purdue in overtime.

Beat the Tigers took an even crazier finish.

Auburn, seeded fifth (30-10), had cleared a 10-point deficit in the last five minutes and led 62-60 after Guy made an unbalanced 3 with 7.6 seconds to go. The shot caused the Cavaliers more than five minutes of drought, which sent Jared Harper to the line with 7 seconds to go.

Harper made one and Auburn, with faults to give, did it twice. With 1.5 seconds to go, Virginia (34-3) gave the ball to Guy in the corner. He turned around and pulled. Samir Doughty, hands in the air, hit Guy's hip.

When the whistle blew, Auburn coach Bruce Pearl lost him on the side, pulling his fist and screaming. Later, the fans watching television also complained when it appeared that Ty Jerome may have dribbled twice on the court.

The guy swung the first two free throws to tie him up and Auburn asked for a timeout to freeze him. Did not work He hit one more for the head. Auburn threw a long pass to Brown, but his despair was short.

The Cavaliers mobilized Guy at one end. Brown sits on the ground, his head leaning on the other. Auburn, in the Final Four for the first time, had a very difficult end to the season.

Jerome scored 21 points for Virginia and De-Andre Hunter scored 10 of his 14 on a great half.

Doughty led Auburn with 13 and Brown had 12 for Auburn, who almost beat Virginia at his own game – with solid defense and shots in the half-court.
