[ad_1]

the Game of thrones final of the series is finally on us. After eight seasons and nearly 72 hours of epic storytelling, the HBO fantasy series draws to a close, completing the saga that began nearly a decade ago. Who will live and who will die? Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and the Stark brothers and sisters are present to complicate the drama.

Although this is not the end of Ice Singing and Fire – we have two other books and at least one derivative series on the horizon – this is the culmination of an event gigantic cultural and perhaps the last show on the water coolers never look together.

Season 8 has been a crazy, if incoherent, run from lush landscapes to incomprehensible battle scenes and poignant links to shocking betrayals (both by characters and bystanders). We are now in the final phase, and annoying things such as logic and character growth have been thrown to the window in favor of finding field points and racing through boss fights.

Here's what you need to know to get into this final episode.

What happened in Season 8 of Game of Thrones?

The first moments of The ThronesThe final season reflects the premiere of the series: the Starks are preparing to receive a royal caravan, worried about what will be asked of them.

The tensions between Daenerys and Sansa are palpable as soon as they meet. While Daenerys shows his strength in the North, Sansa and Arya worry about the Queen Dragon's grip on their brother, Jon Snow.

Only he is not their brother. After years of theorizing, Game of thrones finally confirmed Jon's filiation last season. He is not a bastard, he is the son of Ned Stark's sister, Lyanna, and Daenerys's brother, Rhaegar, who secretly married before Jon's birth. Sam reveals to Jon the secret at the end of Episode 1, "Winterfell," and Jon tells Dany in Episode 2, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms."

This revelation is a real bomb, but before we can take into account, the army of the dead, attack in episode 3, "The Long Night". It's a brutal assault, but when all hope seems lost, Arya seems to come out of nowhere to kill King Night.

The second half of Season 8 deals with the repercussions of Jon's revelation. Daenerys begs him not to tell anyone, but of course he does it. Soon, information spread from Sansa to Tyrion via Varys. The spider begins to consider betraying his queen, who, according to him, is too volatile for the throne.

In the midst of this internal turmoil, Euron Greyjoy's fleet eliminates the forces that returned to Dragonstone in episode 4, titled "The Last of the Starks". The Qyburn scorpion fires a wounded Rhaegal, leaving Daenerys with a remaining dragon. And Missandei, his closest adviser and friend, is captured during the attack. She is later killed by the mountain during a parlay.

In "The Bells", the penultimate episode and one of the most controversial in the series, Daenerys, betrayed and distressed, decides to rule with fear because she has lost everything she loves. She orders Drogon to ravage King's Landing, even after the surrender. Jaime and Cersei are killed in the assault, as well as most of Lannister 's army and a huge population of civilians.

What else do I have to remember?

Game of thrones is a dense show, filled with random legends and legends. Throughout the season, we have gone through history, answered questions and dispelled theories of the last six episodes of this epic epic. Here are some of the most important themes left on the board.

Game of Thrones season 8 - episode 3 The bells of Daenerys Targaryen the mad queen

HBO

The mad queen

The evolution of Daenerys from a married exile orphan in exchange for political favors to Mad Queen burning down a town on land is a long and complicated road. Many fans were frustrated by what appeared to be an undeserved heel turn at the Battle of King's Landing, but Game of thrones has been preparing this step for years. Whether or not the spectators have done justice to his bow, which is full of sensibilities around women and power and "madness", depends of course on the interpretation. (And Game of thrones certainly does not have a great deal of experience in representing women's growth.)

Jon Snow's honor

Although Ned Stark is not really the father of Jon Snow, the prefect of the North has raised him as his. Jon studied at the feet of a man whose unwavering dedication to the honor and truth had literally killed him. This dedication is complicated by the fact that Ned has lied to Jon about his identity all his life, albeit for honorable reasons. Nevertheless, Jon's constant quotation from Patriarch Stark indicates that he has nevertheless taken these lessons to heart. This will surely affect how Jon reckons with the fact that Daenerys has just slaughtered an entire city.

Arya and green eyes

Prophecy plays a big role in Game of thrones. Stannis's conviction that he was the prince who was promised enlightened his military choices; Cersei's paranoia about the predicted deaths of her children forced her to exclude all others.

Arya Stark, for her part, has never given much importance to Melissandre's prediction that she will permanently close "brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes". And the blue eyes of the king of the night also permanently closed in the hands of young Stark. But what about these green eyes? Most people assumed that green eyes were referring to Cersei, but when Arya was lucky enough to kill Queen Lannister, she pulled back. However, in Westeros, there is another powerful blonde queen with green eyes, a queen who may very well have recently ranked at the top of the list.

What to expect in the Game of Thrones Finale

Despite Daenerys' insistence that she did not want to be the "queen of ashes," that's exactly what episode 6 teases. The preview is even shorter than usual: Tyrion and Arya are slowly pacing shaved streets of King's Landing. The plans of the last faithful armies of Daenerys, the Dothraki and the Unsullied, which were once an inspiring spectacle, have now invaded us with a feeling of overwhelming terror.

What is more remarkable here, however, is what we do not see – Jon Snow is absent from the trailer, as is Sansa and Bran. More importantly, we never see Dany's face. Will she look into the title of Mad Queen and reign with fear? And will anyone be able to stop it?
