Another dismal performance on the defense, combined with too many cold offensives, allowed the Arizona Wildcats to sit out for 92 seconds in a 67-60 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes on Sunday night in Boulder.
It was the seventh consecutive loss for Arizona (14-12, 5-8 Pac-12), its longest skid since its 16th consecutive victory in the worst 4-24 season in 1982-83.
Ryan Luther scored 17 points and Dylan Smith scored 16 points for the second consecutive game with the Wildcats, who lost five road games in a row to win their first Pac-12 record since 2015-16 and only third -500 points on the road Sean Miller's 10 seasons.
Meanwhile, Colorado (16-9, 7-6) has won five straight conference-time games for the first time in 13 years.
Arizona shot a total of 44.4%, 52% in the second half, and 8 of 21 in three points with four from Luther and Smith. But Colorado shot 55.8 percent, the fifth time in six games that an enemy of Arizona shot at least 50 percent of the field.
Down 34-28 at half-time, after losing 11 points for much of the first period, Arizona tied the 36-year-old on a Luther jumper with 15:35 to make in the second halftime. But then Colorado leader McKinley Wright IV scored seven goals in 59 seconds to allow the Buffaloes to go up 43-36 with 14:12 to play.
Wright finished with 14 points, Lucas Siewert was 15 and Tyler Bey had nine points with 10 rebounds while Colorado had dominated Arizona 31-24.
Colorado extended the lead to 51-39 on a three-pointer from Bey and a D'Shawn Schwartz triple, scoring seven of nine shots after scoring one of ten goals in a 10-minute run covering both halves. Arizona missed 6 of 7 in the Buffalo 15-3 race.
Smith's back-to-back shots, including a three-pass transition on a sick no-look pass from Justin Coleman, caught Arizona with a score of 53-46 at 9:09.
Arizona was threatened 59-52 after a Smith 3 while Brandon Randolph was the victim of a long foul. The 81.4% shooter missed both free throws and Wright equalized one point at the other end to bring the Colorado lead to 10 with 4:09 left.
The Wildcats could not get closer to more than seven after that, a 4 for 10 performance of the foul line eliminating any chance of a comeback.
A start of the game from 0 to 6 on the field placed Arizona behind the eighth ball early, but not as much as his defense. Colorado started the match with 10 wins for 11 losses, scoring on nine possessions in a row to lead 27-16 with 9:36 to go in the first half.
Luther was the only Wildcat to have a good shot at the start of the game. He tied three shots on goal in as many attempts in the first 13 minutes.
Arizona, however, was only 32-26 with 5:05 left after Smith scored a 3 and Ira Lee scored inside. The Buffaloes spent nearly six minutes without scoring after their hot start, but the Wildcats could not capitalize. They missed seven consecutive shots in a 5:04 drought that ended on a Lee dunk with a second before halftime.
Arizona returns home Thursday to face the California Golden Bears, who have no win in the Pac-12.
