In what was thankfully the Mets’ last game against the Marlins until 2022, the Mets beat Miami 12-3.
Rich Hill started the final game of the year at Citi Field and was his usual reliable car, pitching five innings and allowing three runs. He earned his first victory as a Met in what was in all likelihood his last start with the team, as the 41-year-old is set to become a free agent after this season.
The Mets offense was propelled by Michael Conforto, James McCann and Pete Alonso. Conforto and McCann both produced two runs, Conforto’s RBI comes on a pair of singles, while Alonso hit his 36th homer of the year in the second inning.
At the end of the eighth round, Francisco Lindor provided the icing on the cake to victory, pulling off a grand slam, his second of the season and his 20th homerun of the season. Pete Alonso followed with a two-run homerun from wide receiver Sandy Leon, who was called up to secure the inning final for the Marlins.
Full recap to follow.
