This fight between the Mets and the Dodgers was a classic start for Jacob deGrom. He was confronted with another favorite of the Cy Young Award, even though he had some recent difficulties. Unsurprisingly, the Mets' offensive got the better of Ryu's ship because they seem physically unable to support Jacob deGrom.
Both pitchers have certainly pleaded for the Cy Young Award tonight. Each of them participated in seven white sleeves. DeGrom gave only three hits and Ryu gave only two. deGrom withdrew eight batters and Ryu had six.
However, the Mets emerged victorious from the battle of the bulls. Despite some questionable management decisions made by Mickey Callaway in the eighth inning, the Mets loaded the bases against Joe Kelly and Julio Urias. Rajai Davis was the key player, a brace that broke the tie and allowed the Mets to score 3-0.
Seth Lugo hit the camp at the top of the eighth and won for his effort. Justin Wilson started a ninth 1-2-3 to earn his third save of the season.
