Final Score: Mets 7, Reds 0 – BREAKING: Starting pitchers allowed to dive deep in matches

After three straight games in which the Mets box was brutally overworked, the team finally got a quality start with their starting pitcher while crushing a few home runs, leading to a 7-0 victory to win the series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Marcus Stroman has struggled in his last few starts, but he looked as good as he has been in any game this season today. He’s allowed just three base runners all day – a hit on his first pitch of the day, a start single in the third and a walk in the seventh. Beyond that, he shut down the Reds, generating weak contact while striking out seven to eight innings. While he was only 90 shots after eight and could have attempted the full shutout, Jeurys Familia came instead to end the game. Still, the Amazins desperately needed to give most of their lifters a rest today, and Stroman’s clutch performance allowed them to do just that.

Meanwhile, the Mets’ offense scored all of its points today via the long ball. The team first took the lead in the second set with a solo shot from Jonathan Villar in the second. A set later, the Amazins started things off with three straight singles to lead out of the frame before Dominic Smith had a grand slam to put them 5-0. Two innings later, Luis Guillorme had fun with his first blow of the season, a 2-point shot to leave the score at 7-0, where he will stay for the remainder of the game. All in all, it was the rare day the offense and pitcher showed up to play for the Mets.
