Final score: Phillies 14, Mets 3: pure ugliness

If you miss the Mets game tonight, consider yourself lucky. The New York Mets were thoroughly mistreated 14-3 by the Philadelphia Phillies in a match that ended before the end of the first run.

Steven Matz had the worst start of his career – this includes last season's game when he allowed seven points in two-thirds of a game at Washington Nationals – and left the game without scoring a single goal. He faced eight batters and allowed eight runs (six earned) on four hits in one hike. Maikel Franco delivered the death blow to the Matz party with three home runs at the dead center. The Mets also made three errors in an infernal heat, in which the Phillies sent 14 men to the plate and earned 10 points.

The Mets exchanged points solo with Wilson Ramos and Michael Conforto, but the Phillies were relentless and added one point in the fourth and three in the sixth to distance themselves further. On the positive side, Drew Gagnon was able to save the Mets pen most of the time, since he provided 5.1 adequate relief rounds in an impossible situation. He made 97 shots and avoided the Mets having to use too much relief in a lost game.

New York starters now have an incredible 5.62 ERA on the season. Meanwhile, Dallas Keuchel remains unsigned.

Complete summary to follow.
